When the Haze Changes Our Daily Routine

Living in Kuala Lumpur means we are used to many things.

✴️Traffic.

✴️Hot weather.

✴️Sudden rain.

✴️Busy schedules.

But every time the haze returns, it reminds me of something important:

Life can change our plans without asking for permission.

Recently, the haze has once again affected Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. Several areas, including Cheras and Batu Muda, have recorded unhealthy air quality readings during the current haze situation. (BERNAMA)

And as a mother with growing children, haze is not just something I see outside the window.

It affects how I manage my family’s daily life.

When You Have Growing Kids, Everything Requires Planning

Before becoming a mother, a hazy day might simply mean:

“Maybe I should wear a mask.”

But when you have growing children, the thought process becomes completely different.

You start asking:

  • Should the children play outside today?

  • Should we cancel outdoor activities?

  • Are the windows properly closed?

  • Do we need masks when going out?

  • Do we have enough essentials at home?

  • What happens if school activities are affected?

  • How do we keep everyone healthy while maintaining our normal routine?

As parents, we slowly realise something.

Preparedness is part of parenting.

⚡️We cannot control the weather.

⚡️We cannot control the haze.

⚡️We cannot control where the smoke comes from.

⚡️But we can control how prepared we are.

And that mindset does not only apply to health.

It also applies to money.

The Haze Reminds Me Why Emergency Planning Matters

A haze situation may not necessarily become a financial emergency.

But unexpected situations often create unexpected expenses.

⚠️More time indoors.

⚠️Medical expenses.

⚠️Masks and health-related necessities.

⚠️Changes in work schedules.

⚠️Unexpected disruptions to family routines.

And when you have children, the responsibility feels even bigger.

This is why I believe every family should build some form of financial emergency buffer.

Because emergencies rarely send us a calendar invitation.

They simply happen.

And when they do, the question is:

Do we panic… or do we have options?

Managing a Family Is Also About Managing Uncertainty

As my children grow older, I realise that parenting is really a long-term responsibility.

Today, I worry about haze.

Tomorrow, it might be education expenses.

The next day, it could be medical costs.

Years later, university fees.

And eventually, preparing them to become financially responsible adults themselves.

That is why I don’t believe financial planning should only focus on making money.

It should also focus on building resilience.

Resilience means having something to fall back on.

✅Savings.

✅Emergency funds.

✅Assets.

✅Insurance and protection.

And for me personally, gold savings is one of the tools I use as part of my long-term financial preparation.

Why Gold Savings Makes Sense to Me

I don’t save in gold because I believe gold can solve every financial problem.

And I don’t believe anyone should put all their money into one asset.

But I believe gold has an important role in a diversified financial plan.

Gold helps me think differently about money.

Instead of asking:

“How much money can I spend this month?”

I ask:

“How much value can I preserve for the future?”

When I save consistently in gold, I am building an asset over time.

⚡️Gram by gram.

⚡️Month by month.

⚡️Year by year.

It may start small.

But consistency has a powerful effect.

Just like raising children.

You don’t see the final result overnight.

You invest your time, energy and effort consistently.

And one day, you realise how far you have come.

As for me I have raised a 20 year old son, 18 year old daughter, 16 year old daughter and 11 year old daughter. I have spent 18 years becoming a full-time mother to them. Yes, if you ask me it's tiring but it's worth the sacrifice that I've made to see them grow right in front of my bare eyes.

Small Preparations Can Create Big Peace of Mind

The haze has reminded me that preparation is not about being afraid.

It is about being responsible.

✅I prepare masks.

✅I monitor outdoor activities.

✅I make sure my children understand why they need to take care of their health.

And financially, I also try to prepare for the future.

✅I save.

✅I build assets.

✅I accumulate gold.

Not because I know exactly what will happen tomorrow.

But because I know tomorrow will eventually come with its own challenges.

And I want to have choices.

What I Want My Children to Learn About Money

One day, my children will have their own responsibilities.

Their own families.

Their own financial challenges.

And perhaps their own unexpected “haze moments” in life.

I hope they remember one important lesson:

👉You don’t prepare because you know exactly what will happen.

👉You prepare because you know life is unpredictable.

Saving money gives you breathing space.

Building assets gives you options.

And developing good financial habits gives you confidence.

For me, gold savings is not just about buying a piece of gold.

It is about developing the habit of converting part of today’s income into an asset for tomorrow.

The Haze Will Eventually Clear

Every haze season reminds us that conditions can change.

The sky may look grey today.

Outdoor plans may be cancelled.

Our routines may need to adjust.

But eventually, the rain comes.

The wind changes.

And the sky becomes clearer again.

Life is very similar.

There will be difficult seasons.

Unexpected expenses.

Financial pressure.

Uncertainty.

But when we prepare during the good times, we are stronger during the difficult times.

My Personal Reminder as a Mother

As I manage my life with growing children, I am learning that I cannot control everything around me.

But I can control how I prepare my family.

I can protect their health.

I can teach them good habits.

I can manage my finances better.

And I can slowly build assets for the future.

For me, that includes saving in gold.

Not as a shortcut to becoming rich.

But as part of building a stronger financial foundation.

Because just like the haze…

We may not know when the next unexpected situation will come.

But we can decide today to be better prepared for it.

💡Start small.

💡Save consistently.

💡Build assets.

💡Prepare for the future.

Because when you have people depending on you, financial preparedness is no longer just about you.

It’s about the people you love.
